All Things Turkish: Appetizers to share with friends at Second Chance
Mimi has a multitude of Turkish delicacies on the 1000 Foods to Eat List which are easily obtained now that Atlas Market is in Poway. I gathered a few of them to take to one of my Sunday gatherings at Second Chance with Friends:
- Pastirma: is a 16th century version of our modern pastrami. It has a redder color and will admit I as a bit hesitant to try it but it is a saltier, firmer version of pastrami and works great with cheese and crackers or Simit
- Simit: So Simit is the equivalent of a bagel-it is softer and more of a bread roll texture than bagel. These sell on the streets of Istanbul but a frozen version can be had a Atlas.
- Turkish Cheese: There are a variety of Turkish cheeses to eat and several of these are available at Altas. For this gathering I picked the Beyaz Peynir which is a soft white cheese. Want to learn more about Turkish Cheese?
- Tsetove Gangar: This was my final offering and involved a bit of cooking. This is the innermost part of the artichoke, cooked along with vegetables (carrots, peas and pearl onions) then served in olive oil. The Spruce Eats has a nice recipe to try should you think it is worth the effort. I am not certain it is unless you want to check this off of Mimi’s list. I think a nice jar of antipasti from Atlas is less effort.
