Take out from the Kettner Exchange
Ivan had his birthday in the middle of the Covid19 so we didn’t do too much for his actual birthday. We had a big celebration the month before for both his and Elena’s birthday but on the actual day we ordered food for take out from the Kettner Exchange. This had been a place on my list since it made the Michelin Star’s Bib Gourmand listing in 2019. We tried three appetizers: Fatty Shrimp Roll with Malaysian Curry, Duck Meatball with Gritts and Beef Short Rib Toast. For our Mains Elena had a Drunken Noodle Bowl, I had a Salmon Bowl and Ivan ordered the Thai Braised Pork Shoulder. I will say that I was perturbed as the Pork Shoulder takes and hour to cook and I had been told that in the online ordering so had to wait BUT that being said, it was delicious.
The portions were large and we ended up with a significant amount of leftovers but the one thing we didn’t have left over was the budino. This seems to be a pudding, covered in caramel and topped with a salted cheese. We got one order to share and I can assure that next time, I get my own order (and there WILL be a next time). What to order if I go back? I think we all thought all three appetizers were to die for and the pork shoulder was amazing. I’d skip the drunken noodles and the salmon bowl-not because they weren’t good as they were-but I think there are better things on the menu. My most favorite? The short rib toast and, of course, the budino.
