Kugelhof
I made a Kugelhof. Kugelhof is on the 1000 Foods to Eat Before you Die and I have had my share of them before but I wanted to bake one myself. I used the Epicurious recipe for it. The Kugelhof is a yeast bread-sort of a cross between a raisin toast and a sweet bread that is from the Alsace region of Germany/France. I lived in Freiburg and lived just a few minutes from the French border.
Kugelhof was a pretty big staple in the households where I lived. It is a simple bread to make and makes great toast. It has it’s own distinctive pan but can be made in a Bundt pan for those who just don’t have a Kugelhof pan. I have made a similar yeast bread before as part of this (Buccellato) which we all agree we liked better than the Kugelhof.
