Sufganiyot-Jelly Donuts for Passover
Last year we were in Ljubljana for Hannukah. I tried to get sufganiyot which are jelly donuts, and we couldn’t find a bakery that had them. When I returned I called DZ Akins and asked if they still made them. The very helpful person told me that Hannukah was over to which I said that I knew but could I still get them. He was pretty funny and then proceeded to ask me if I understood what Hannukah was and that it took place for a limited period of time and that the donuts were for Hanukkah which was over. I got the message. This year I ordered them and picked them up because, of course, they are a 1000 thing to eat before you die. The book does say that they are just jelly donuts and I would agree they do seem like every other jelly donut I have eaten in my life. That being said, THESE jelly donuts are called Sufganiyot. Checked off the list.
