Freshman Year-A North Park Cult Favorite
This past weekend I finally went to a North Park cult favorite-Freshman Year. My good friend, Sandy, was the instigator of my following this interesting pop-up. The chef, Logan Kendall, has an interesting concept-offering brunch on Friday, Saturday and Sunday with a different menu each week. This past week I picked up most of the week’s offerings to include Labneh Zatar Tots, Peach Cobbler Biscoff French Toast, Mango Guava Cheesecake Toaster Strudel, Aries Fried Chicken McGriddle and a Papalito’s Smothed Brisket Crunchwrap to share with a few friends. We gave them all taste which I paired from my new favorite-a mimosa bar. A bit more about Freshman Year-this is run food truck style out of a Airstream located in the seating area of Atypical Waffle which is located behind a laundromat. It took a minute or two for me to navigate this, but next time, I know just go to the counter of the Airstream. The food is interesting and somewhat unexpected. The Mcgriddle, for example had two layers-one chicken and one hashbrown and while I couldn’t completely be sure, I am pretty certain the chicken breading contained some form of breakfast cereal. The Toaster Strudel, LOOKED like a toaster strudel, but tasted like an expensive puff pastry creation. Looking for something really different, give Freshman Year a shot.
